Dates and deadlines
Academic year
Universities have their own calendar, so to speak. The academic year consists of the winter and summer semesters, abbreviated to WiSe and SoSe respectively. At FH Aachen, the winter semester formally begins on 1 September and ends on 28/29 February, while the summer semester formally begins on 1 March and ends on 31 August. However, the lecture period usually only begins in mid-September or mid-March and ends in mid-January or mid-June. Written examinations are taken during the first three weeks of the semester break. Only then does the so-called semester break begin.
Application deadlines
Information on applications can be found on the pages Applications and application deadlines.
Internship registration deadlines
Many lectures include practical trainings for which you have to register. The professor responsible for the module determines how to register for the practical training associated with the lecture and - very importantly - the deadlines by which you can register for this practical training. It is therefore strongly recommended that you attend the first course and lectures of the semester, as this is where you will be informed about the deadlines and the internship registration process. Some FB8 professors also provide information on how they handle this on their homepage (see FB8 - Homepage: People). Some post information on Campus or Ilias. If you don't want to search, you should definitely attend the first lecture of the semester!
Examination registration deadlines, examination dates
All dates relating to examination matters can be found on the Examination Planning / Examination Dates page.
Re-registration and re-registration deadlines
By re-registering, students declare that they wish to continue their studies in the following semester. The Student Service Centre (SSC) has answered questions about this process on this page. General deadlines for the semester periods as well as re-registration and leave of absence deadlines can be found on the Registrar' s Office website under "Aktuelle Termine / Fristen".
Cancellation period
If you have registered for an examination but would rather cancel this decision, you can deregister from the examination up to one week (= 7 days) before the actual examination date. Cancellation of the exam is done in the same way as registration in the QIS portal.
Semester dates (lecture and exam periods)
Lecture periods
- On the page Semester dates and deadlines you will find an overview of all important semester dates.
Exam periods
- As the examination periods are different in the individual faculties, the lecture periods (i.e. the first and last day of courses and lectures) are faculty-specific, i.e. they are determined by the faculty. Here in this PDF file you will find an overview of the written examination and lecture periods of FB8.
