School projects

What do engineers actually do?

The term STEM (= mathematics, information technology, natural sciences and technology) is always in the spotlight. Unfortunately, technology is at the bottom of the STEM list, but it deserves more attention.

Technology is with us every day. Nobody goes out in the morning to milk a cow when they want a glass of milk. When we think of milk, we think of "organic" or "cow", but not of feed processing, milking machines, cooling, transport, processing, packaging... Technical achievements have enriched our lives. They are the merit of engineers.

We want to awaken an interest in engineering among schoolchildren! Because we love technology! We offer projects and workshops for schoolchildren that arouse their curiosity about engineering, promote technical skills and understanding, encourage them to think about technical contexts and establish real links to their everyday lives.

Through practical tasks, creative problem-solving and joint tinkering, they experience how exciting, useful and mouldable technology is in everyday life and in society. With exciting experiments, challenges and teamwork, we show how much fun technology can be - and open up prospects in future fields of study and work at an early stage.

We like to co-operate with schools!

If you are interested in a workshop or project organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, please contact Ms Jacobi to arrange a date. Some workshops/projects have fixed dates (e.g. Girls' Day and pro8), other dates are arranged by appointment.
