FAQs Freshman Program
Step 1: Discovery – Is this the right path for me?
What exactly is the Freshman Program?
Think of it as your "bridge" to Germany. If your high school diploma doesn't allow you to enter a German university directly, or if you want a year to adjust to the language and culture, this program is for you. From October to July we provide the academic foundation, language skills, and a "soft landing" in Germany so you can start your Bachelor’s with total confidence.
What can I study?
We offer a variety of study options in engineering, natural science, business and economics, and medicine and health sciences. See What Can I Study for details.
What if I'm still not sure what my path is?
Register for our online information seminar, where we explain the details and answer your questions.
Step 2: Application – How do I get in?
How do I get in? What are the main requirements?
We keep it simple: Our entrance exam and a passion for learning! You don't need a language certificate if you pass our own entrance exam!
Apply directly now or contact one of our partners in your country for local support.
Tell me about the Entrance Exam. Is it hard?
It’s a fair test of math and language (English or German). We want to see your potential, not just your memory. You can take it online from your home or offline in a few countries.
Exam preparation tip: We provide sample exams and an online math course here so you can practice and feel 100% prepared!
Step 3: Financials – The "No-Stress" Package
How much does it cost, and what’s included?
The program fee is an "All-Inclusive Package" €21500 for 2027/2028. We know that sounds like a lot, but here is what it covers:
- Tuition & all learning materials (books, etc.).
- Your accommodation (a cozy shared room in an apartment on our Freshman campus).
- Health, accident, liability and incoming insurance.
- Free public transportation throughout Germany!
- Academic and language courses
- Final qualification exams for university entry
- Fun stuff: Events, music classes, field trips, bicycles, sports, etc.
What’s not included:
- Meals: You start learning real independence — planning your meals, doing your own grocery shopping, and cooking in a shared kitchen. It’s all part of growing into adulthood and honestly, it can be a lot of fun figuring it out together with your roommates.
- Personal expenses: Don’t forget to buy toothpaste!
Step 4: Arrival & Life – What is student life like?
Where will I live?
You’ll live in our student residences with about 300 other Freshman students from more than 30 countries on our Freshman campus in Geilenkirchen. You will share a room with another student of the same gender. It’s the best way to make friends from around the world! You’ll have a shared kitchen to cook your favorite meals, washing machines for your laundry, and high-speed Wi-Fi to call home. Your classrooms are just a few steps away.
Can you tell me more about Geilenkirchen?
Geilenkirchen is a great place for Freshman students, offering both convenience and a relaxed, enjoyable environment. It has everything you’d need day-to-day, including doctors, a hospital, supermarkets, and a variety of shops, so it feels safe and well-equipped. There are also nice spots like a skate park, ice cream parlors and parks where you can hang out with friends.
Step 5: The Future – What happens at the end of the Freshman Program?
Do I have to pay a high fee every year?
No! After the Freshman Program you transition to a public German university. Most of these are state-funded, meaning you only pay a small semester fee (now around €380), which currently includes your bus and train ticket. You only have your living expenses. A blocked bank account may be required when you start in your bachelor’s program.
