Application

Type of Application

As a general rule, applications are made online. You will be guided all the way through the Online Application Portal. You can find further general information on our application process page as well as more specific information further down on this page.

Please also note that you must also apply simultaneously to our study programme partner, the ZVA-Bildungszentrum.

Application and Registration Deadlines

Normally, the following applies (subject to change, please check here for any changes).

  • he application deadline always ends around April 4 (slight postponements are possible due to weekends or public holidays).
  • The registration deadline after first-time admission always ends around April 15 (slight postponements are possible due to weekends or public holidays).

If you do not have a master craftsperson's certificate at the time of application, it is sufficient to submit a letter of confirmation from the Düsseldorf Chamber of Commerce and Industry (or, if applicable, from another competent body). The master craftsperson's certificate itself (or an officially certified copy) can then be submitted until the month of July. Should you fail to do so, you will no longer be able to re-register for the next semester.
If you have any questions, please contact the Registrar's Office in Jülich which is competent as regards registration (Studierendensekretariat_Juelichfh-aachen.de).

Registration Requirements

First of all: Due to the special study structure with integrated master craftsperson's examination, the Abitur is no longer an admission requirement! In fact, access to the study programme is granted to those who have successfully completed the ZVA-Meisterkurs in Ophthalmic Optometry at the ZVA-Bildungszentrum or at another comparable educational institution (in accordance with the Gesetz über die Berufe in der Optometrie, Augenoptiker- Ausbildungsverordnung of 26 April 2011, BGBl. I p. 698). The ZVA Meisterkurs also includes the examination for the master craftsman's certificate in the optometry trade before the Chamber of Crafts, the passing of which is a prerequisite for admission to the second stage of studies.

In practice, this means that either you are already a master craftsperson and fulfil the given requirements (if not, see Question 3 of the FAQ), then you can apply directly for the fifth semester of the study programme at FH Aachen, or you can present a completed apprenticeship in the optician trade (journeyman or journeywoman), then you first register at the ZVA-Bildungszentrum for the ZVA-Meisterkurs in Ophthalmic Optics and start there with the first semester.

There is currently no NC for this study programme. Likewise, no professional experience is required. Entry is possible directly after the apprenticeship certification exam.
