Funding opportunities for study abroad for Master's students

The Erasmus+ programme offers the opportunity to apply for low-interest loans for a complete Master's degree programme abroad: up to €12,000 for one-year Master's degree programmes and up to €18,000 for two-year Master's degree programmes (including tuition fees in each case). The banks currently provide loans for students who want to go from Germany to Spain (outgoings) and for students from Spain or Turkey who come to Germany (incomings). If you are studying at the University of Luxembourg or the University of Cyprus, you can apply for a loan in the form of a later payment of tuition fees and accommodation costs. For other destination countries, students from Germany who wish to complete a full Master's programme abroad cannot apply for a Master's loan. The documents for applying for the loan are provided directly by the respective bank. Further information on application deadlines, application, processing, interest rates or similar can generally be obtained from the respective bank.

The banks are currently selected at national level by the EIF (European Investment Fund). The Erasmus+ Master Loans will be introduced successively in the Erasmus+ programme countries. A list of the selected banks will be published on the EU Commission 's website.

German banks have not yet been selected.

Institute Ranke-Heinemann"scholarship programme

Under certain conditions, the Ranke-Heinemann Academic Foundation awards the following scholarship grants to Bachelor's and Master's students who have applied for a semester abroad (e.g. Study Abroad) in Australia or New Zealand as a free mover through the Institute Ranke-Heinemann, the non-profit Registrar's Office of all Australian and New Zealand universities:

• 10% grant towards Study Abroad tuition fees
• Ranke-Heinemann full scholarship: applicants can apply for a scholarship in the amount of the tuition fees to be paid for one semester
• Ranke-Heinemann travel grant: Applicants automatically take part in a lottery and can win a travel grant up to a maximum of 1000 euros.

Target group:
Since 1986, the China Scholarship Programme has been supporting highly qualified students during a one-year language, study and internship stay in the People's Republic of China. It is aimed specifically at non-sinologists with a substantial interest in the People's Republic of China and offers them the opportunity to acquire in-depth knowledge of the Chinese language and society as well as the university and research landscape. Scholarship holders can gain their first work experience in China through self-organised practical trainings. In addition to financial support in China itself, admission to the programme includes intensive language preparation in Germany in the form of two three-week language courses held at Trier University. After their return from China, the participants continue to be supported by the Studienstiftung.

Every year, College Contact awards 10 subject-related partial scholarships to students who organise their semester abroad as a "free mover" via College Contact. The scholarships are worth EUR 1,000 each and are aimed at students from the fields of engineering, art and design, economics, natural sciences, languages and cultural studies. Scholarship holders are selected irrespective of grades and social criteria, but purely on the basis of proven personal and professional motivation. Daimler AG scholarships abroad for students of computer science, engineering, economics and industrial engineering

Daimler Student Partnership is a cross-location support programme of Daimler AG and is aimed at high-performing and motivated students.

The Franco-German Youth Office (FGYO) awards scholarships for conducting scientific research and/or interviews with institutions and people in France.

Target group: Students of all subject areas whose final thesis requires a stay in France

• Detailed project description for the final thesis and bibliography required

A practical training programme lasting several weeks can round off the experience abroad as a third element. Scholarship purpose:
The Neufert Foundation promotes the preservation of the cultural and architectural heritage of Professor Ernst Neufert. The Bauhaus student and author of the architectural design theory travelled throughout his life for study purposes. His studies abroad contributed to the creation of such a comprehensive, internationally recognised body of work. The foundation supports architects in gaining experience abroad by awarding scholarships for Master's degree programmes at international universities.

Target group:

All students who have completed a Bachelor's degree in architecture, urban planning or landscape architecture at a university or college in Germany and wish to complete their Master's degree at an international university are eligible to participate.

Selected achievements:

The scholarship includes a benefit of (one-off) € 2,500.00 per scholarship holder.

The application deadline begins annually on 01 March and ends on 15 May.

The British Council, the UK's international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities, is delighted to be able to offer the British Council IELTS Award in Germany again this year. The scholarship covers tuition fees of up to GBP 10,000 for a year of study at home or abroad.

New: Online application to the Fulbright Commission in the "Fulbright Foreign Student Programme"

Pre-assessment and forwarding of scholarship applications by the Departments of International Affairs at German universities is no longer necessary.

Selection procedure: In a first selection step, the applications received are assessed by an external selection committee. Applicants nominated by the reviewers are invited to group interviews at the end of September, which take place in Berlin at the end of October/beginning of November. From mid-November, applications will be informed of the outcome of the final selection by email. The actual admission letter from the American university can still be submitted until April.
