Erasmus+ study support

With Erasmus+, students from all three study cycles (Bachelor's, Master's, Doctorate) of all subject areas can be supported during their stay abroad. Students thus have the opportunity to get to know teaching and research methods on an international level during their studies, as well as to acquire intercultural competence and foreign language skills. The work done abroad is recognised at FH Aachen as agreed in the online learning agreement.

An Erasmus+ stay abroad is already possible in the first year of study. Regular long-term mobility is between 2 and 12 months.

Each mobility can be carried out in a blended format. This means that a virtual phase can be completed in addition to the physical stay abroad.

Students who cannot participate in a long-term mobility (2 months or more) due to special circumstances have the opportunity to complete a "Blended Short Term Mobility". In this new mobility format, the funded students are physically abroad for between 5-30 days and also complete a virtual phase. At least 3 ECTS credits must be earned.

Advantages of an Erasmus+ study grant

Countries of destination

The Erasmus+ study abroad period takes place at an official Erasmus+ partner university of FH Aachen.

Funding

The funding rates are fixed for all German higher education institutions. The financial support for students' stays abroad under Erasmus+ is based on the different costs of living in the destination countries.

Erasmus+ funding is not a full scholarship, but a grant to cover the additional costs incurred abroad.

The mobility grant is calculated on a daily basis. One month corresponds to 30 days. The length of stay is not rounded off.

The grant is paid in two instalments. 70 per cent will be paid after arrival at the partner university and 30 per cent after return and presentation of all documents to be submitted.

As of the academic year 2024/2025 (project 2024) the following funding rates apply:

  • Group 1 ( 600 euros per month):
Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and partner countries of Region 13 (= Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, Vatican State) and 14 (= Faroe Islands, Switzerland, United Kingdom)
  • Group 2 ( 540 euros per month):
Estonia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Greece, Latvia, Malta, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain
  • Group 3 (monthly 540 euros):
Bulgaria, Croatia, Lithuania, Northern Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Hungary, Turkey.

Up to two travel days are paid to cover the travel time before and after the activity abroad.

In addition, special grants are available.

These can be applied for by "participants with fewer opportunities" and by Green Travel.

You can read about the funding conditions on our Erasmus+ main page under the tabs "Special funding Fewer opportunities" and "Erasmus+ Green Travel".
