General Information

The Flight Operations Technology with Commercial Pilot Training degree programme is a non-admission-restricted, dual Bachelor's degree programme.
You can find out how to apply and which requirements must be met in the following sections.

Admission Requirements for the Degree Programme Flight Operations Engineering B.Eng./ATPL

In addition to the general admission requirements, you must also meet the following requirements for the Bachelor's degree programme in Flight Operations Engineering B.Eng./ATPL:

Pre-study Practical Training

Pre-study Internship

No pre-study practical training is required for admission to the Flight Operations Technology B.Eng./ATPL. degree programme. However, it has been shown that it helps students to understand the content of the degree programme in combination with the practical content of the degree programme. Having already worked with certain materials or manufacturing processes is an advantage if these are covered in the degree programme.

Special arrangements for the 2026/27 winter semester

For technical reasons, the OSA is currently unavailable until further notice. You therefore do not need to provide any proof when registering for the winter semester 2026/27.

Training Contract with a Cooperating Flight School

For admission to the programme, the selection procedure of a cooperating flight school must be passed, which determines the basic aptitude for the pilot profession.
In addition, a training contract for the pilot profession must be in place with the cooperating flight school.

FH Aachen currently cooperates with four flight schools that are approved by EASA (the competent authority) for commercial flight training:

RWL German Flight Academy GmbH

FFL Fachschule für Luftfahrzeugführer GmbH

TFC Flugbetrieb und -technik Beratungsgesellschaft mbH

Heli Transair European Air Services GmbH (ATPL - H, helicopter commercial flight licence)

If you would like to obtain your licence at another flight school or already hold a licence, please contact us at: bachelor-fb6(at)fh-aachen.de.

Additional Information on Flight Training

Performance Review

Training to become a commercial pilot places very complex demands on trainees. To ensure that you can successfully complete the training, the flight school carries out a performance test at the beginning. This will give them an assessment of your performance and you will also recognise whether you are suitable for such training. In addition, you must present a class 1 medical fitness certificate.

Training Programme

The training is intensive in terms of content, but comparatively short with a duration of 18 to 20 months (24 months for helicopters). Within these two years, you will learn everything you need to know to operate an aircraft in theory and practice. This part of the training takes place after the academic part at the UAS.

Costs

The training costs amount to up to €75,000, whereby financing is possible via cooperating banks. Training to become a professional helicopter pilot costs more; the flight school can advise on financing.

Registration for the Degree Programme

A few weeks after your application, you will receive a letter of acceptance or rejection from the faculties. This will promise you a place at university.

If you would like to take up the place at university, you will need to provide some further information and take some additional steps. Simply follow the instructions on the letter of admission within the deadline.

You can find information on the application here.
