Enzyme Technology
Enzymes are important biocatalysts that accelerate biochemical reactions inside and outside cells. In medicine, they play a crucial role in the discovery of new therapies and treatments. In industry, enzymes are essential as they save time and costs by accelerating various chemical reactions. For example, they are used in the detergent and cleaning agent industry as fat solvents and are naturally present in many foods (e.g. anti-inflammatory bromelain in pineapple). In the laboratory, we develop processes to produce novel and potentially highly effective substances that can later be used in industry or pharmaceuticals. In our practical trainings we explore the optimal reaction conditions and substrate spectra of new enzymes. New enzymes are produced, characterised and optimised as part of research and doctoral theses. Modern equipment is available for this purpose.
