Chemistry and Biotechnology

Our faculty forms an interface between the natural and engineering sciences of biology, chemistry, bioinformatics and process engineering.
In a balanced mix of theory and hands-on laboratory practice, we offer application-oriented degree programmes for both Bachelor's and Master's degrees. In addition to this future-oriented education, our activities focus on applied research in close cooperation between biotechnologists, chemists, cooperating companies and institutes. For example, we work together to find sustainable solutions for the sensible use of recycling streams for the production of hydrogen, the development of biodegradable products and the establishment of a functioning recycling economy.
We show how vaccines, diagnostic detection methods for pathogens and innovative cancer drugs are developed.
