First Semester Info

Welcome to the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering!

Students and lecturers from the fields of aeronautics, astronautics, automotive engineering and propulsion technology are looking forward to getting to know you.

Here you will find important information to help you find your way around FH Aachen in the first few days. Get to know your first lecturers and find links to courses, events, contact persons and software. The most important platforms are also briefly explained.

We wish you a successful start to your studies!

First steps and information

First things first: Take care of acquiring your enrolment certificate and setting up your FH account, if you haven't already done so.

IMPORTANT: When you receive your certificate (by post), you will also receive the access data for your FH account. You can find more information under "Accounts and Services".
All official communication will take place via your FH e-mail address later on.

In addition, you can now start looking at the information below. Find out about pre-courses, the infrastructure available to you and how to contact students at the faculty. Although studies will again take place in presence as usual, many tools and services will be needed in the course of the studies.

Accounts and services

Please activate your account as soon as your enrolment process has been completed!

It is quite possible that this process will extend into September. Please be patient.

In addition to a personal email address, the university provides you with various online services that will guide you through your studies. For this purpose, new students will receive a personal link by email a few days after registration, which can be used to activate the FH identifier (user name) and FH email address itself.

We explain how to do this during the welcome events. The university account is the user account for central access-restricted services at FH Aachen. After activation, it can take about 24 hours before you can use your university account and e-mail address.

You can find a detailed description of the so-called "Welcome" process here.

Study administration

FH email address

When you register, you will receive your own email address, which you can either integrate into a mail programme (e.g. Thunderbird or Outlook) or simply call up in the Outlook web client. You are obliged to check this address regularly.

Official mail correspondence will be sent exclusively via this mail address from the start of lectures at the latest!

HISinOne (Higher Education Information System)

The HIS is used to keep track of and manage your studies. Here you can view your enrolment status, the relevant certificates (e.g. for a BAFöG application), your parking permit and your proof of payment of student body fees.

HIS

CampusOffice (web-based study planner)

The CampusOffice system is an online service for students. Via CampusOffice you have access to the course catalogue of the FH Aachen as well as to the module catalogues of the individual degree programmes. CampusOffice enables you to register for courses and lectures and to organise them with the help of a lecture planner.

QIS (Examination Administration)

In the QIS system, you can register for your module examinations, i.e. the written exams, and manage them. Furthermore, you can find your current ECTS ("credits") and your grade list here.

ILIAS eLearning Platform

Here you will find a large number of your lecturers' teaching materials, courses and exercises, including the documents for the preliminary courses in mathematics and mathematical basics for engineers. However, an activated FH account is required (see above).
You can also find a collection of important and interesting information on the ILIAS page for freshers can be found here.

Cisco Webex

The communication tool Webex is the most widely used tool for online courses and lectures at the faculty/university. It is strongly advised that you familiarise yourself with it and install the client on a terminal device. While Webex will also work on a phone, some advanced/interactive features may not be available.

Pre-course information

Pre-course Mathematics 04.09.23 - 15.09.23

Start: Monday at 8:45 a.m. in room KMAC U1001 (Hohenstaufenallee 10).

The preliminary course is a course for all first-year students of the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering. Within the framework of the preliminary course, topics of school mathematics are repeated and refreshed and basic mathematical facts are taught. In this way, the preliminary course bridges the gap between school mathematics and university mathematics. In addition, it offers students the opportunity to get to know the university, lecturers and fellow students in advance.

In the mornings, lectures and exercises on the various topics take place in large groups. In the afternoons, tutorials are offered where the material covered can be studied in greater depth in smaller groups.
The tutorials will probably take place in the afternoon from 13:00 to 14:30. More detailed information will be given in the course.

The online bridging courses OMB+ (www.ombplus.de/ombplus/public/) will also help you prepare for our degree programmes.

Course "Mathematical Foundations of Engineering" 18.09.23 - 29.09.23 (examination on 02.10.23)

Start: Monday at 8:45 a.m. in room KMAC U1001
(Hohenstaufenallee 10)

The course "Mathematical Foundations of Engineering Sciences", MGI for short, is a further course which serves as a basis for later modules in the degree programme. The contents of MGI are required in the module "Mathematics 1", as well as passing the written examination at the end of the course. Participation in the course is voluntary, but the written examination is mandatory.

Registration is only necessary for the exam in "MGI", but not for the pre-course Maths and the course MGI. For the exam in MGI please register within the deadline of 18.09.23 - 25.09.23.

The registration deadlines for modules and exams can be found on the Examination Office page under "Dates and Deadlines".
