Electrical Engineering with training orientation B.Eng.

(Kopie 1)

A 1st semester with elements of study and in-company training

Starting practical work in a company or studying engineering at a university of applied sciences?

There are degree programmes with integrated training, dual study programmes and the option of adding a degree course after training. All of these options have one thing in common: pupils need to know very early on exactly which career path they want to pursue. Shortly before their Abitur (university entrance qualification), they have rarely had the opportunity to get a realistic picture of everyday working life in a company or the processes at a university.

As a result, it is not uncommon for apprenticeships to be cancelled because they had imagined things differently, or for a degree course to be abandoned after a tough struggle, even though the subject itself had always been fun. For young people, this feels like failure. But they had no way of knowing better beforehand.

To ensure that this form of education does not diminish enthusiasm for an exciting subject, electrical engineering, the Aachen Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Aachen Chamber of Crafts and the FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences, supported by the City Region of Aachen, have launched a degree programme in electrical engineering with training orientation.

In the Electrical Engineering with Training Orientation (ETAUS) degree programme, both study and training units are integrated in the first semester so that students can experience both educational paths intensively. To this end, students conclude a part-time training contract with a cooperating company parallel to their application for a place at university at FH Aachen. At the end of the first semester, a final mentoring interview takes place so that students can make an informed decision about their future educational path. They can either continue their studies at FH Aachen or continue their education full-time.

The ETAUS degree programme is offered as a six- or seven-semester Bachelor's degree programme. The seven-semester degree programme includes a practical semester or semester abroad in the 6th semester and qualifies students for a Master's degree.
