Abstract

In the automotive sector, the demand for bandwidth for in-vehicle communication is steadily increasing. To enable the transition from an existing technology towards a technology that will suffice these new demands, it is necessary to enable the coexistence of both. This thesis in particular focuses on the CAN-Bus as an existing means of communication and Ethernet as a potential successor. As there is no compatibility between CAN and Ethernet, a gateway is necessary to translate from one network to the other. SOME/IP is proposed as a middleware for in-vehicle communication. This thesis examines the design of a gateway with SOME/IP as the underlying middleware.
