Service Points

Our "Fachschaftsrat" (FSR) is part of the student self-administration and represents the interests of all students enrolled in the faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics (FB8). The office of the FSR is a point of contact where the selected student representatives try to settle all kind of student problems, provide assistance with setting up a lecture timetable and answer questions relating to study programs.

The student representatives organize different student events, such as the introductory week for first semesters.

Academic counsellors support students by providing subject-specific information and advice on the structure and content of their studies. They are primarily the contact person for prospective students who need support in their decision-making process and who have general questions about a degree program, e.g., about

• choosing a course of study
• the content of the study program
• the course of studies
• study planning
• the options available during the course of study
• setting the main focus
• choosing a suitable master's program

Anyone wishing to make a report concerning one of the following issues is asked to contact the janitor. It is best to briefly describe the problem by e-mail: Hausmeister-Goethestrasse(at)fh-aachen.de

• Locking system
• House and door signs
• Technical fault report
• Defective or damaged inventory (chairs, benches, cupboards, doors, light switches, etc.)
• Cleanliness of rooms, restrooms, hallways, stairs, etc.

For malfunctions of the media and lecture hall technology, the DVZ is responsible and can be reached directly, e.g. via the ticket system or by telephone. 

Information on opening hours, lost property, etc. for the buildings in Goethestr. 1 - 3 can be found on the website about the faculty's buildings.

The Quality Improvement Commission (QA Commission) consists of the following members:

• 3 students
• 1 professor
• 1 academic staff member
• 1 member from the Dean's Office (advisory function)

In order to continuously improve the quality of the study conditions, all members and students of the faculty can submit suggestions to the QV Commission (qv-kommission-fb8fh-aachen.de), e.g. for the improvement of internal procedures and processes, for the appropriate use of financial resources, etc.
These suggestions are then examined and forwarded to the appropriate bodies in a targeted manner.

The General Student Committee (AStA) is the executive body of all students at the FH Aachen. The AStA is elected and appointed by the highest body of the students, the student parliament. The AStA is responsible for participating in events and carrying out resolutions. Furthermore, the AStA offers various services (all information on the AStA homepage):

• Legal representation and advice for students
• Clarifying and informing about current events at the FH
• Support for special or changing life situations (financing, studying with a child, students with impairments or disabilities, etc.)
• Borrowing a van for events or moving house
• Organization of events and special offers
• and much more.

The Career Service establishes the connection between the university and the economy and thus also between students and graduates on the one hand and entrepreneurs on the other. It makes use of its long-standing contacts with companies in the region and with national and international companies, as well as its cooperation with corporate groups, chambers of commerce, business development agencies, technology centers, research institutes, etc. The Career Service offers students a job portal and information on job fairs and job exchanges, among other things.

The Family Office is the first point of contact for students and employees who have children or care for relatives, as well as the FH Aachen's central institution for the topic of compatibility and family justice.

With a wide range of services, the Family Office helps students and employees of the university to combine family and caregiving tasks with the demands of studies and work. These include confidential advice and support in the search for individual solutions to family issues, the provision of on-campus childcare, the establishment of parent-child rooms and breastfeeding and nappy-changing facilities, the organization of networking and information events, and the provision of information about external services and other contact points.

The staff at the Psychosocial Counseling (PSB) supports students in coping with personal and study-related difficulties or in preparing for challenging study and life phases. The goal of counseling is to activate your abilities to change your situation and to support you in mastering crisis situations on your own. 

You will usually receive an appointment for an initial consultation within a few days to a maximum of 2 weeks. In this initial consultation, your concerns will be disscussed in a calm and confidential setting. We will point out what you expect from the counseling and the scope of possible support from the PSB. 

The Registrar's Office manages and processes the application process for the degree programs of the FH Aachen, including the granting of admissions and enrollment. The Registrar's Office is responsible for the administrative matters of the students and organizes the re-registration process, leaves of absence, change of degree program, change of study direction or university, change of address and name, tuition fees, proof of study, and much more: www.studierendensekretariat.fh-aachen.de
