II.5 | Career Service
Introducing the Career Service
The Career Service is a point of contact for domestic and international employers and a counselling centre for students and graduates. It is a service provider for the training and development of the ability to work and acts as an interface between internal departments, students, external employment systems and graduates. Its tasks therefore include providing information, advice and training.
It is not always a given that you will find a suitable position in the job market immediately after graduating. One of the important tasks of universities is to counteract this and provide guidance at an early stage during your studies. This becomes all the more important as the job market continues to evolve globally. Companies often view a university degree as only a basic qualification. However, in addition to the ability to work, professional skills such as foreign languages, international experience, practical experience, teamwork, networked thinking and much more are required. Pointing out the necessity of these new requirements and drawing attention to suitable measures and events, or offering these themselves, is one of the tasks of the Career Service.
Contact Point for Employers, Early Career Orientation, Further Training
The Career Service acts as a link between university and industry, connecting students and graduates with business leaders. It draws on its long-standing contacts with small and medium-sized enterprises in the region as well as national and international companies, and collaborates with corporations, chambers of commerce, business development agencies, technology centres and research institutions, to name but a few.
By providing early career orientation and highlighting personal prospects, it increases the efficiency of studies, shortens study times and the transition phase between studies and first employment. The tasks and objectives of the Career Service therefore include information, counselling, qualification and placement.
Communication between internal and external partners, continuous needs assessment and coordination of the Career Service's offerings with the job market, and further training for Career Service staff ensure the quality of the Career Service.

Course Providers
In order to offer students and graduates a wide and varied range of courses and events, the Career Service at FH Aachen collaborates with external service providers. In doing so, the university naturally observes data protection regulations. Students and graduates decide for themselves whether they wish to take advantage of information and offers from providers that go beyond the seminar content.
Business Companies
There are numerous ways for companies and our Career Service to collaborate. For example, companies can inform us about their offers for work placements, final theses and jobs, which we then publish on the FH Aachen Job Portal. Whether large corporations, small and medium-sized enterprises, or institutions from Germany and abroad wish to introduce themselves to students and graduates at the university, or invite them for company visits, they are welcome to contact the Career Service.
Additionally, the Career Service is a point of contact for companies in other areas, such as, for example, those looking to redesign their premises (foyer, corridors, courtyards) by offering students from the Faculty of Design their unused floor and wall spaces for exhibitions. This makes the premises more diverse and interesting for customers and employees, while giving young creative minds the opportunity to promote themselves.
Furthermore, the Career Service and Innovation Transfer act as a competent point of contact for queries related to business succession as well.
