Then turn right on Pontwall, follow the road (straight on to Turmstrasse, Junkerstrasse, Schanz, Boxgraben) until crossing the street Mozartstrasse. There, turn right and follow the road. Right after a railway bridge, the street Goethestrasse goes straight on. The main building of the faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics is situated directly here at the beginning of the Goethestrasse. You may have difficulties in finding a parking spot.

Map

Orientation within the faculty

The majority of courses are held in Goethestraße (Goe) for all degree programs in Faculty 8. While students of industrial engineering and mechatronics also have some courses in Eupener Straße (Eup), which is a fifteen-minute walk away, students of mechanical engineering only have to change the side of the street to get from the buildings in Goethestraße to those in Hohenstaufenallee (Hoh).

The rooms for each event are listed in the event overview under Dates and Location in CampusOffice (www.campusoffice.fh-aachen.de). Understanding how the room numbers are made up will make it easier to find the rooms. The room numbers first indicate the location of the building, i.e. the street on which the building is located (Goe, Eup, Hoh) and then a number indicating the room.
Let's take the large lecture hall in Goethestraße for an example:

Goe 01 3 01
Goe | The building is located in Goethestraße.
01 | The first two digits indicate the floor. The large lecture hall is therefore on the second floor.
3 | The next digit indicates one of the four building parts in Goethestraße (see sketch below).
01 | The last two digits indicate the number of the room.

The following sketch is not a map, it only serves as a rough orientation and indicates the location of rooms that are of general interest to the students (e.g. such as contact persons, toilets, study rooms).

Study rooms

The following three study rooms are available to students in the department:

  • in the basement in room U1412
  • on the 1st floor in room 01208
  • on the 3rd floor in room 03205

In addition, the rooms Goe 01412 and Goe 02410 on the 1st and 2nd floor of Building 4 can be used as study rooms when they are not occupied.

Printing and payment station

Students of our faculty can use the printing and payment station in the following two rooms:

  • on the 1st floor in room 01211 and
  • on the 3rd floor in room 03205.

The payment station can be used to conveniently pay library fees on site without having to go to the library in the Eupener Straße 70.

The handling is very simple:

  • You identify yourself at the machine with your FH card. The library account is opened and the display shows the open fees.
  • You select the fees you want to pay and pay the fees with your FH card. If you want to use the print station, please send your print job to the print station as a PDF document first: https://druckstation.bibliothek.fh-aachen.de.
  • Then you can log in to the print station monitor, view the print jobs and finally send them off for printing.

If you don't have your laptop with you, you can also upload print jobs via the Internet PC located next to the print station. The print station is supported by the data processing center (technology, paper and toner).

Parent-child room

The FH Aachen has further expanded its services for employees and students with children. In 2018, a parent-child room was set up in Faculty 8 (Goethestraße 1) on the 3rd floor, room 03208, offering parents the opportunity to change diapers, breastfeed, play and work/learn.

After prior written registration, the key can be borrowed from the porter in the entrance hall. The opening hours of the parent-child room correspond to the general opening hours of the faculty building (located at Goethestraße 1-3, see faculty website).

Further information: The FH Aachen has a family office as a central institution of the university on the topic of compatibility and family justice. The family office of the FH Aachen is the first point of contact for students and employees who have children or care for relatives.

Toilets

  • Men's toilets: 00401/02; 01107; 02201; 02401/02; 03310/11; U1223
  • Ladies toilets: 01401/02, 00203; U1225
  • Disabled toilet: 00202 (key at the porter)

Bib-FHone

Since 2014, a red British telephone booth, the so-called Bib-FHone, has been located on the ground floor of our faculty in the Goethestrasse as the library's communication point. The internal Bib-FHone in the cell is the direct line to the library. Using preassigned quick-dial keys, you can be put through immediately to the circulation desk for extending the loan period of a book or dial the information desk immediately if you have any questions. As a positive side effect, the Bib-FHone is also available exclusively for internal FH calls and for emergency calls.

Refectory

With the KMAC refectory, a refectory is available to our students at the location of the faculty. A little further away, but within walking distance (approx. 15 minutes), is the refectory in Eupener Straße.

Click here to go to the website of the Studierendenwerk Aachen, where the weekly menus of the refectories are published.

Accessibility

Students, employees or visitors of the department with walking difficulties are recommended to access the faculty building from the inner courtyard on Goethestraße 1-3. There, the elevator can be reached without stairs.

The large lecture hall room Goe 01301 offers 2 workstations with swiveling tables suitable for wheelchair users.

There is a disabled toilet on the ground floor in room 00202 (the key can be obtained from the porter). Upon request, a separate key for the toilet can also be issued if required.

There are 2 disabled parking spaces in the faculty in the courtyard of Goethestraße 1-3

  • 1 parking space in front of the elevator of building 5 (house number: Goethestraße 3).
  • 1 parking space next to the entrance to building 4

For more information, see also: https://www.fh-aachen.de/hochschule/inklusion.

Escape routes and assembly areas

In the event of a fire alarm - recognizable by the siren or house alarm - leave the building via the escape routes and go to the assembly point. Please do not use elevators!

In the event of an alarm, students, employees and visitors of Faculty 8 should gather outside in front of the main entrance on the lawn. Access routes in the inner courtyard must remain free! The respective escape route plans are posted in every corridor in the building.

Lost property

Lost property is deposited at the "Pforte" (next to the main entrance) of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics. Please contact the janitor at Goethestrasse 1 if you would like to hand in lost property or are looking for something you have lost here in the building.

Corresponding requests can also be sent by e-mail to Hausmeister-Goethestrassefh-aachen.de.

Defibrillator

Location of the defibrillator in FB8: on the first floor (by the main entrance/gate), directly next to room 00209.

An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a device that delivers a controlled surge of electricity and can be used for first aid in sudden cardiac arrest resuscitation. A "defi" hangs outside Room 00209 in Department 8. It looks similar to a first aid kit or small toolbox and is identifiable by the abbreviation "AED" and a green sign with a heart symbol.

Connected to the defibrillator are two cables with stickers about the size of postcards on the ends. These are the electrodes that connect the device to the unconscious person. A defibrillator is easy to use in an emergency: It uses a built-in voice function to indicate which actions are to be performed and in what order. Depending on the model, a small screen or printed drawings may also help.

Lockers

Don't feel like lugging the same stuff to the department all the time?
There are several lockers in the department that can be rented. You can find all the information about them at www.astradirect.de (emailastradirect.de, Tel. 0621 1247680).

Notifications / Complaints / Criticism

Anyone who would like to make a report concerning the following points is asked to contact the janitor. It is best to describe the problem briefly by email:  Hausmeister-Goethestrasse(at)fh-aachen.de:

  • Locking system
  • House and door signs
  • Technical fault report
  • Defective or damaged inventory (chairs, benches, cupboards, doors, light switches, etc.)
  • Cleanliness of rooms, restrooms, hallways, stairs, etc.

For malfunctions of the media and lecture hall technology, the DVZ is responsible and can be reached directly, e.g. via the ticket system or by telephone.
